A Brief History Of Time:                                                         Home  Gigs  The Band

In 1997, Lofty formed The Afterglow which was to be a tribute to the Mod scene and in particular The Jam. Our original drummer, Pete Yates, also played a key role in the origination of The Afterglow and the style of music that we initially played. Again, his idea was as a tribute to Mod music but in particular to The Small Faces - hence the name of the band.

Nothing wrong with mod music, but our repertoire has changed since we first started and now encompasses the mod/punk and new wave classics from this astounding era of music. We also have a few contemporary songs from the `80s and even the `90s that we occasionally play.

One thing for sure though, is the songs that we play are the songs that mean something special to each of us and we know will evoke memories of the past for anyone watching & listening.

What we have as you scroll down this page are the songs in our immediate repertoire. We are aiming to have more than 50 songs that we can regularly play by the end of this year. It is usual practice for us to play over 30 songs per gig.

Towards the bottom of the page we have the songs that we are working on, have played but dropped (and the reasons why we dropped them!!!) or are contemplating working on.

The Ones That Got Away (Thank God!)
Song Title Original Band Why It Was Dropped
Bully Boy Shed Seven

This one's down to our guitarist...

Tried once at Cock & Bottle in Skipton, fell after the third bar due to Lofty playing On Stand By!

One of the crowd did actually clap at the end but he was pissed

Roxanne The Police

Instrumentally, this was sounding bob on - then Dunc sang...

And no matter how he tried, he couldn't reach the key of Sting!

Any by the... The Police Please see above...
Design For Life The Manics

Yes... it's finally arrived in this section. The rest of the band would love to do this and musically it usually sounds good but for one thing - Dunc.

Cars Gary Numan

Instrumentally again, this was sounding good - then Dunc appeared with immortal lines...

"I'm not singing that f**king song. Numan's a f**king c**t and the song is shit!"

Point taken, however the rest of the band disagree. Possibility of resurrection.

Blockbuster The Sweet
How many times does Lofty have to be told NO! And the same goes for Tiger Feet, Hang On Sloopy etc. etc. etc.

Songs we're messing with at the moment...

Seeing as we only practice when we can be arsed it's a miracle that we learn ANY new songs. However, when we put our minds to it we can knock out a couple usually in good time. These are some of the songs that we are toying with at the moment - this section may not change that often!!!

MY SHARONA
MICKEY (TITLE CHANGED TO "STRICKY" - YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!)
RIVERBOAT SONG (STILL!)

Can't think of any more at the moment, so these will have to do
